Christ Church Rathgar

Christ Church is a Presbyterian church and with our dissenting tradition we are in a position to facilitate discussion and debate from within our worship and other activities. The congregation is relatively small and we are about to begin The Renaissance Project. It is envisaged that a redeveloped worship area and halls will enable worship and a range of weekday activities for the church and the community.

Irish culture has changed rapidly in the past decade, and it looks as though this pace of change will be maintained for the foreseeable future. An interesting phenomenon is that while, on the one hand, interest and involvement in established religion is declining, on the other there is a growing interest in spirituality and meaning.

Dublin is a multicultural city with people from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds and faiths, and the congregation is evidence of this. A growing number of members come from various parts of the world: Korea, China, The Sudan, Ghana, Malawi, Nigeria, Angola, France, USA, Germany and Denmark.

Our vision is of a dynamic, active faith and community centre where people’s needs are met spiritually, socially, intellectually and emotionally, and where people of all faiths and none feel welcomed, valued and appreciated.

We look forward to the Book Festival for Children when, as hosts, we have the opportunity to share with residents, authors, businesses, and visitors for the benefit of the community and for families who are living with a child who is seriously ill.

Christ Church has been an integral part of the life of Rathgar for over 150 years, and it is our belief that in a changing Ireland we can be more intricately involved in the future.
